Jawbone UP

Hello!

 

I’ve always wanted to post this up, but I didn’t had the time to do it. I got my Jawbone about a year ago from London, and now, it came out with a newer version, Jawbone UP24. I hope I’m not too late to write this post.

 

Jawbone UP is a fitness wristband that tracks the user’s steps and sleep. It syncs with Jawbone app via the head-phone jack and transmits all the data gathered from the Jawbone UP. The app show users progression of their steps and sleep statistics on their phones. The app can also be used to track workouts, calorie intake and more. I wear my Jawbone all the time, removing it only when I need to sync it and when I shower (although it is waterproof).

 

It calculates my steps, how far I’ve walked and how many calories I burnt. It is really useful when I’m overseas, because I walk a lot, like probably 15,000 steps which is about 8.5km. Here in KL? Hmm. I roughly walked about 3,000 steps. It’s not wise to walk here and I prefer driving. I can give a lot more reasons why but people just don’t walk here but I’m not going to as you all know most of them. LOL.

 

When I want to workout, I press the button twice to enable timed-activity mode. This allows the Jawbone UP to track my performance within the time limit that I set. To end the workout, I just have to press the button again. In addition, timed-activity mode is also good for band calibration to ensure better accuracy when reading and taking your steps progression. When I sleep, I press the button longer till it turn to sleep mode. It can read how well I slept the night before, whether I was in deep sleep and how many times I woke up. It’s pretty accurate I must say. Every time the band is synced, the app will let me know the goals and tips whether I need more sleep or  exercise to keep fit.

 

Have you ever wonder how it works? I was curious myself and did a lil reading. In this strip of rubber, there is an electronic component that includes a lithium-ion battery, a motion sensor and a vibration motor. The motion sensor detects changes in acceleration. Acceleration has two components: speed and direction. If an objection in motion experiences a change in either speed or direction, it has a change in acceleration. Motion sensors detect these changes through tiny electromechanical elements. Geddit?

 

In the app, it also display my fiancé’s data so that I can track his progress too! The app has a food diary feature that lets me enter my meals during the day as well so that I can see if I am burning more calories than I am consuming.

With all the information shown on the app, it provides me insights that can help me make decisions to feel my best and further motivate me to do better. I love my Jawbone UP.
